The Unseen Habits to Strengthen Your Body & Brain
Oct 14, 2023As an executive woman you are hustling hard, you're no stranger to life's demands. I understand the importance of caring for yourself, especially if you find yourself in a caregiving role.
Let's begin by considering your physical health, including what you put into your body, how you move it, and what you put on your skin. Your skin is your body's largest organ and the products you use matter. Try the Think Dirty® app to check ingredient quality or use EWG's Healthy Living App to assess your food and personal care products.
Personally, I opt for natural deodorants and fragrances, as I've learned about the potential links between aluminum and health issues. What we apply to our skin can affect our overall health, making it crucial to choose wisely.
We trust the products on store shelves, but it's essential to be mindful of our choices for a healthier life now and in the future.
Speaking of trusting products on shelves, what are we putting INTO our bodies? How many veggies and fruits? Have you chugged your water lately? Sure all of these things seem to be a no brainer AND as caregivers and hustling humans, we forget. I did when I was running around from the hospital, home, to kids activities, and it came in waves throughout my caregiver journey. If you can prep or hire out the prep or shopping so that you can make it easy for yourself, do it! You can't caregive on an empty stomach or on crap.
In our fast-paced world, taking time to re-center is essential. Pay attention to your emotional well-being and your relationships. Evaluate which relationships truly support you, which may be toxic, and which need healthier boundaries.
To help, consider using apps like Insight Timer for sleep, anxiety, and stress management, or explore mindfulness with Headspace. For professional guidance, online therapy through platforms like Talkspace can be an excellent resource.
Lastly, movement. I am a TRUE lover of my Peloton Tread and Bike but I also lover their strength, yoga, meditation, barre, boxing, and so much more. Since my father passed away, I have been trying to get back to my movement schedule. I have committed to a minimum of twenty minutes of something at least five days a week. On days I don't move on the mat, bike, or tread, then I have committed to at least 10,000 steps. I can feel the difference in how I feel mentally when I move. It doesn't have to be a lot, just something for me.
Remember, health isn't just about the physical it is about the mental and how it all ties together. You are a vessel. Care for you, fill up your cup! You are worthy in every sense.
